ASIST for Agencies (SUV)

About Me

I started Client Voice Innovations in the Spring of 2008 to sell the ASIST software that was previously sold by the Institute for Therapeutic Change on the talkingcure website. After four years of working with Drs Scott Miller and Barry Duncan, I was ready to set off on my own.

I was motivated to develop the ASIST program because I saw the value in gathering outcome scores as a therapist trainee but didn’t like the burden of taking so many ruler measurements (32 in a week for 4 clients!). I could see that having a full practice (or couples!) would mean an ordeal to keep gathering scores. Almost everybody has Microsoft Excel and it facilitates a way to gather scores with forms and buttons people could readily use. I had been developing MS Excel/Word/Access based tools as an engineer for a medical device company so it was easy to leverage this skill for ASIST.

My motivation is geared toward facilitating a move toward clients being heard more in psychotherapy. I was increasingly dismayed at the ‘standard of care’ for counseling that was focused on therapist expertise rather than the client’s perception of being helped. As a client in psychotherapy I found this type of attitude insulting and not helpful.

I have a more personal attitude toward business. Still, I strive for excellence in programming and am pleased with the results. I think you (and ultimately your clients) will agree.

Yours,

David Elliott
